Mobile Cybersecurity 101: Protecting Your Smartphone from Digital Threats
Event Title: “Mobile Cybersecurity 101: Protecting Your Smartphone from Digital Threats”
I. Details of the event/activity
On May 25, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, we hosted an event titled "Mobile Cybersecurity 101: Protecting Your Smartphone from Digital Threats" in Gordon College's Room 521. I, John Harvey Agrabio, was the host of the event, which was organized by Rhex Warren Mallari. The speaker, Reymart Verzosa, provided valuable insights into mobile cybersecurity.
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings):
The event offered a deep dive into the world of mobile cybersecurity. Reymart Verzosa explained various digital threats that smartphones face, such as malware, phishing, and unsecured networks. He emphasized the importance of securing our devices with strong passwords, regular updates, and being cautious about the apps we install. Understanding these risks and learning how to protect against them was incredibly enlightening and emphasized the significance of maintaining good cybersecurity habits.
III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a
practical level (practical application of learning)
The knowledge gained from this event can be directly applied to enhance the security of our smartphones. I plan to implement stronger passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and regularly update my phone's software to guard against vulnerabilities. Additionally, I'll be more vigilant about the permissions granted to apps and avoid downloading from untrusted sources. Sharing these practices with peers and family will also help in promoting better cybersecurity awareness
IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)
The event was a great success. The coordination between team members, including Rhex Warren Mallari, Reymart Verzosa, and myself, was seamless. Reymart's presentation was clear and engaging, capturing the attention of the audience effectively. The venue was well-prepared, and the schedule was adhered to, which contributed to the smooth flow of the session. The active participation from attendees also highlighted the relevance and importance of the topic.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities
As organizers, we are always looking to improve future events. While this session was well-received, we could enhance future events by incorporating more interactive elements, such as live demonstrations or Q&A segments, to increase engagement. Providing attendees with additional resources or take-home materials on mobile cybersecurity could also reinforce the learning experience. Overall, the event was a positive and informative experience, and we look forward to organizing more such sessions in the future.
